Rafters Going Up
Thursday and Friday this week have been rain-free so the framing crew was able to get a lot done. Most of the ceiling joists are in, the second floor subfloor is in. They are putting up rafters as I write this and sheeting is being installed on the exterior walls. It's starting to look like the house in the drawings that I've been staring at for the past year.

Slowed By Rainy Days
Progress was slowed considerably due to weather the last two days. If it wasn't raining, it was too windy to hang the exterior sheeting. It got so wet on Tuesday that they kept tripping the breaker on the temp power supply, that's when they decided to call it a day. Nevertheless they managed to build the fireplace framing, the stairs to the second floor and most of the second floor subfloor. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow and Friday.

Subfloor framing
The first floor subfloor was finished on Friday September 21st. They were able to finish the basement stairs and layout the first floor walls as well. And thanks to another monsoon (this time with a ton of hail) we have water in the basement again. The framer ran the sump pump for a couple of hours which helped, but the floor is still wet.

First Day of Framing
On the first day of framing, the framing crew was able to get all of the walls in the basement built and some of the floor joists set. It gives the basement a sense of size now with some walls up. I think the size will be sufficient (and then some!!!).

Slabs Poured, Foundation Backfilled and Lumber Delivered
It was a slow week last week. There wasn't much going on other than a stone-slinger running back and forth delivering around 20 loads of pea gravel to fill the garage and porch areas. But once they finished, the concrete crew went to work on Tuesday, September 18th to pour the basement and garage floors. They were delayed for a couple of hours due to the water in the basement that required pumping. They finished their job around 4pm and as soon as they were done the excavator came and backfilled the foundation walls. This morning Finley and I stopped by just in time to see the first lumber order being delivered. Our builder says they will start framing tomorrow, September 20th, giving the slabs a couple of days to cure.

Pouring the Basement Walls
So after a soggy Labor Day weekend, the guys were ready to pour the concrete for the basement walls. Unfortunately, they couldn't drive the concrete trucks up to the hole due to the soil being so saturated. Therefore, they used a concrete pump, which on the bright side, made things go very fast. This crew impressed me again with their speed and skill.
I added the following pictures of the walls after the forms were stripped and waterproofing was applied.
